The issue lies in the microswitch inside the DSG gear selector, responsible for detecting when the brake pedal is pressed — allowing the lever to shift out of Park.
In many VW T6.1 models, this switch fails intermittently or permanently. A common fault code seen on diagnostic scans is:
Fault Code: 267784 – Selector Lever Park Position Lock Switch
B1162 29 [009] – Signal Implausible
This code indicates the vehicle is receiving an invalid signal from the built-in microswitch — resulting in gear selector faults and dashboard errors like “Only leave vehicle in position P.”
This failure is internal to the selector unit. Volkswagen does not sell the microswitch separately, and unfortunately, it cannot be replaced on its own. The only solution is a full DSG selector replacement.
