VW Crafter Heated Steering Wheel Retrofit – This One Was a Head-Scratcher! 🔥
We’ve done plenty of heated steering wheel retrofits, but this VW Crafter heated steering wheel installation in Coventry turned out to be more challenging than expected. Unlike other Volkswagen models, where the wiring is more retrofit-friendly, this 2021 Crafter required some serious problem-solving. 😅
The Challenge: Wiring Woes & Missing Features
This particular Crafter didn’t come from the factory with a multifunction steering wheel, which meant we had to install that first before even thinking about activating the VW Crafter heated steering wheel. On top of that, Volkswagen didn’t pre-wire the van for this upgrade, making things even trickier.
The customer, who brought the van to us from Redditch, also wanted the front fog lights activated, so we had to ensure all coding and wiring were done properly.
To get the heated steering working, we needed to:
✔️ Install a new dashboard button for heat control
✔️ Add the correct wiring and integrate it into the vehicle’s system
✔️ Activate the feature via coding and adaptations
The Solution: Wiring, Coding & Some Retrofit Magic 🪄
With access to VW’s official vehicle-specific data, we carefully traced the wiring, identified the necessary connections, and integrated everything seamlessly. After some coding adjustments, the VW Crafter heated steering wheel was fully functional, along with the newly installed multifunction steering wheel and fog lights.
Now, this Crafter, brought to us from Nuneaton, is not only more practical with the multifunction steering wheel and fog lights, but the driver can also enjoy warm hands on freezing mornings. ❄️➡️🔥
