Fixing the VW T6.1 DSG Selector Fault
At Professional Retrofits Limited, we recently resolved a common issue on a customer’s VW T6.1 DSG van: the dreaded “Leave in P, Visit Workshop” error. This problem occurs when the gearbox fails to recognize the selector position due to a faulty microswitch. Unfortunately, the microswitch is integrated into the DSG selector, so the entire selector unit needed replacing.
How We Fixed It
-
Diagnosis
Using our trusted VCDS diagnostic tool, we confirmed that the selector’s position wasn’t being registered, pointing directly to the microswitch failure. -
Selector Replacement
We removed the lower dashboard to access the selector and installed a new unit. After fitting, we made sure the selector cable was properly adjusted to prevent the shifter from springing back to Neutral (N) when placed in Drive (D). -
System Reset and Testing
We cleared the fault codes and drove the van, shifting through all gears to ensure everything worked smoothly. Proper testing is crucial to allow the gearbox to fully register the new selector and clear any remaining faults.
